How to create a MINIMAL environment

The minimalist ethos is characterised by essentiality, order, functionality and the elimination of the superfluous; in fact, it stems from a philosophical-artistic current that appeared in the 1960s and was based on the rejection of ostentation.

It is not necessary to limit yourself to total white, you can use all the colours of the neutral palettes. Green light is therefore given to pastel, grey and dove-grey tones, which draw brightness from the combination with white. Intense and bright tones are not characteristic of this shade, although they are considered contemporary, at most, some peculiarity can be attributed to accessories such as cushions or curtains or secondary architectural elements such as pillars or beams.

Light is also an important component, always present and emphasised: the combination of natural light with well-distributed artificial lighting points allows the shapes, geometries of rooms, and the breadth and depth of spaces to be emphasised.

Moreover, those who choose the minimal style are often also those who love technology, which is why a minimal and functional home will use home automation to have everything possible under control at all times.

Since this style prefers large, airy spaces, furniture tends to be placed along the walls, possibly suspended from the floor, as is the case with wall units anchored to the walls. Only in open-plan spaces or lofts, which are very well suited to the minimalist style, is furniture placed in the centre of the room.

But how to choose the right tiles?

The aim is to give continuity between the floor and wall tiles, preferably with light shades so that the room is spacious and without visual barriers. Choose resin- or cement-effect tiles, preferably large tiles, to create a very neutral effect, use a coloured grout in a shade as similar as possible to the stoneware to make the joint less noticeable

A stone effect can also make a room look very basic, preferring products with fine and not very prominent veins.

Our proposals

  • Retina by Imola Ceramic, a perfect mix between a stucco and a coloured earth, with a delicate and soft graphic;

  • Rewind by Ragno, a contemporary reinterpretation of timeless materials: richly evocative surfaces to give today's homes a special atmosphere;

  • Overclay of the Crown Brand, recalling the enveloping colours of the desert and the charm of Middle Eastern qasba;

  • Recover della Valsecchia, an unconventional choice that fascinates with its strong character and lends itself to unexpected contamination.
