THE GRAND BUDAPEST HOTEL

The pastry shop in the Grand Budapest Hotel really exists! The scene was filmed in the Pfunds Molkerei, a famous 19th century dairy in Dresden. The dairy is entirely covered in hand-painted neo-Renaissance style majolica. In addition to all dairy products, it sells fruit schnapps and delicious homemade ice cream. Mr Pfund, the dairy's founder, a bit like Mr Gustave, was the dairy's manager, employee and brilliant mind. He milked his six cows in the rest of the shop to give an idea of the freshness of the milk and was the first to produce and popularise pasteurised milk among his customers.
